  • Current Artist's Dealing with the Figure pt 1

Going to do something a little different this time around. I spend a lot of time (probably too much time) looking around at other artist's work to help me get inspired or to remind me how much I have to do to catch up! There are so many fabulous people out there in the art world, and I want to show you some of the people I have bookmarked over time. In this collection I am presenting you with artist's who deal with the figure (characters, people, or whatever you want to call it).

    Joanne Renaud

Bea and Alan at the ball

Drawn in pencil and painted with acrylics on watercolor paper.

I love Joanne's mark making in her art. It brings life to her drawings and I had a hard time choosing which one of her pieces I wanted to display. Even her pencil sketches feel they could walk off the page. Every expression and movement in her characters tell a story. She has a lot of historical pieces and all of the detailing in the clothing tells you how much she enjoys costumes (lack of a better word). The first time I saw her work was when I was browsing deviantART, but she also has her own beautiful website.

    Bao Pham

    Mek

Drawn in Photoshop using a Wacom tablet.

His artwork has such an ethereal quality to them. I am amazed by how many completely different styles he has. This is only one of many that I adored. The strength in her eyes and brilliance of the colors are remarkable. See how his features and hands are lightly indicated with slight or harsh shifts in tones depending on how far the plane is from the light source?
